Earlier this month, the Alexandria Declaration was adopted calling upon Arab States to comply with the December 2007 General Assembly resolution that supports a moratorium on the death penalty. For information about the meeting: http://www.penalreform.org/home-28.html

Point 5 of the Declaration is crucial. I am having discussions with Muslim leaders in Bangkok regarding a seminar on Islamic perspectives on the death penalty. It is a very gradual process. There is hope in emphasizing the repentance which makes forgiveness and reconciliation possible. And who can declare a day when the possibility of repentance is ended?
